My experience with the Motley Fool Stock Advisor and Motley Fool Income Investor
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
So here’s a little story of how I got sucked in to joining the ranks in the land of the Fools. I have a good bit of money invested into Marvel - MVL It is currently the only non dividend payer in my portfolio so I like keeping tabs on it. I was reading through a few of the Articles over at the Motley Fool and I noticed that it was one of their Motley Fool Stock Advisor picks. I was bored at work at the time and figured what the hell, I mine as well sign up for the 30 day free trial and read up a bit and check out what people are saying on the private discussion board.
After signing up and reading through some articles and past picks I came to the conclusion that the service just wasn’t for me, I would continue reading for the remainder of my 30 days but I would cancel before my time was up.
A week or so passes and I’m on my way to Thailand for some much needed R&R. Soon after I arrived the 4 B’s took control - Bars, booze, birds, and beaches…. my subscription somehow slipped my mind! I soon became a paid Fool. As the Thai’s would say Som Nam Na! - “you get what you deserve”
The service doesn’t do me much good as I’m a Dividend Stock Investor so I log back into the site to cancel my subscription. By canceling I get reimbursed for the unused portion of the 12 months. But as with most things in my life I tend to get easily distracted, I think I mine as well start walking around wearing a T-shirt with that phrase on it just to let everyone know.
I end up signing for the free trial of The Motley Fool Income Investor and find this better suits me but I’m still not sold on keeping it. Two companies I’m currently invested in Kraft - KFT and Pfizer - PFE are on their recommendation list along with numerous other companies that I plan on owning in the near future JNJ, DUK, and DEO to name a few. I may suck it up and shell out the money on this one. They seem to be picking at the same companies I have been and one day maybe they’ll bring some new ones to my attention that I wouldn’t of thought of on my own. It also gives me something to read while I’m at work twiddling my thumbs in front of a computer screen.
I have since canceled Stock Advisor and it looks like I’ll stick with Income Investor for at least a few more months.
Is it necessary that I keep Income Investor? No, not really. I won’t be buying based on their recommendations. It’s never bad to get a second opinion and point of view on the companies I am interested in though.
If there’s any questions out there on the service feel free to ask away.
A fool thinks himself to be wise, but a wise man knows himself to be a fool.
