Giving Away Over $250 - Competition Update
- 44 Comment

In case you haven’t noticed yet, I am holding a Competition where I am giving away over $250 USD. Today has been the busiest day thus far and it is starting to pick up a lot of steam. Links have been coming in from all directions and I have been very pleased with today’s activities.
I wanted to give a quick update or actually a once over of the rules that are in place. There seems to be a little bit of confusion and I want to go ahead and clear that up.
Comments = 1 Point. A point will be earned for a comment on any of my posts, not just the competition post. So if you would like to earn some easy points take a look at some of my previous posts or even this one and leave a comment.
For 5 points you can reference my websites main page www.compounding-dividends.com or any of my previous postings.
The maximum number of points earned per post will be 10 points That is earned when referencing my competition in its own post. 15 points can not be earned in a single post, I appreciate multiple links coming from 1 post but they will not earn you any extra points. 10 points can be earned ONCE, multiple posts on your blog dedicated to my contest will not receive 10 points per post. This would not make it fair to others who run a professional blog.
There is not a drawing, the 5 winners will be those who earned the most amount of points. There is no luck involved, the people who win are those that deserve to win. It is up to YOU to win the money.
Stumbles and Diggs are always appreciated but points will not be given out for them.
Once the Competition comes to an end I would appreciate it if you let me know how many points you have earned and then I will verify. If this continues to grow at today’s pace or even half of today’s pace I will have a lot of counting to do! This is a good thing!!!
If you have anymore questions or is there is any confusion please ask. Thank you to all of you who have participated so far.
Jake

Thanks for the update
I joined today and reading this made it clear to me that I cannot earned 15 points in one post..that’s fine. I’ll probably post another one and link your blog, would that mean I gain another 5 points? thanks so much again for staging this contest!September 23rd, 2008 at 4:33 am -

You would certainly hit it big if you somehow ask John Chow or Shoemoney to mention your contest. How about sending them a T-Shirt?

Rocks - Yes, you can reference my Blog in any of your posts and earn 5 points. But in saying that, if it appears that a Blogs sole purpose is set up to win the competition I will have to draw the line somewhere. It must be fair to all who participate. Linking is encouraged.
gLf - No, that would be appreciated but not rewarded. I’m trying to build permanent links - blogroll links would more than likely be pulled at the close of the competition.
Online Dividends - For my next competition I will promote more and possibly seek assistance from one of the pros, possibly Mr. Chow. I am using this competition to set a foundation or base for my Blog. Once I decide on what Ads I would like to display, get all of my coding sorted out, and have some more content up I’ll find a way to drive more traffic to my site.
Thanks again for your comments and advice.

Count me in!!!
I’ll even add you to my Dividend Blogs page on my site if you want to send me a little description of yourself (or I can just pull it off your site too if you want). Do you want a “Dividend Addict” badge beside your name or on your site?

Sounds great DA. You can pull the info from my site or I can write a brief description and send it to you later when I get home from work. I’ll put a badge up on my site just send me the code. It’s good to have a support group where we can conversate about our addiction. Great idea for a blog!

Jake,
I think that you need to start searching for traffic as soon as you start blogging. You also need to start networking with other bloggers to exchange links and get a nice PR which would allow you to sell text link ads to interested buyers.
You also need to try different methods to get your blog out there. If it’s not a secret i would love to learn how you promote your blog ( your strategy). You could also e-mail me at my e-mail above.

PR is overrated. I moved my blog from blogspot and ended up losing my PR. I think my blog is at zero but I don’t think it’s that low.

OD - Everything will come in due time. My Blogs doing pretty good for being 27 days old(I think, I really don’t know how much traffic the avg blog gets). You can always hope for more, you can always be more proactive, you can always do more. This is a low stress venture of mine and I’m working off an internet connection that constantly goes in and out. It’s all about consistent effort over a long period of time.
LAL - I have a PR of 1 - niiiice

How do you raise your page rank? I used to use blog spot and had a pg 3/4. But then I moved in April to a self-hosted blog and since then I had to restart. Things look not bad. I think I get a lot more.
I haven’t figured out how to increase readership a lot yet.

@Dividend Growth Investor: that’s not included
@LAL: I don’t think moving to a new host can decrease your PR, there are many things to consider, like outgoing links, paid links etc etc.
on my other blog: http://blog.makemoneyonline-x.com/ , which I use solely for blog contests. I didn’t link exchange with others. I think commenting on do-follow blog really helped me achieve PR2 on that blog.

My page was at blogspot and I moved to a self-hosted blog. I know I lost a lot of traffic I think. At least that’s what it seemed like when I was getting 20-30 visitors a day for about a month. I was really trying to get the site up as well and it was slow going.
What are outgoing links? Paid links?
